Egglephant
« Egglephant » is an original painting by Mura, made in acrylic on canvas. A unique piece, accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
A surface unfolds, frontal, held by a simple architecture in which the horizon line divides without rigidity. The canvas is organised in horizontal strata, layered with an almost geological precision: at the top, an incandescent band mixes orange with deep red, crossed by darker nuances that seem to surface like residues of combustion. Lower down, a whitish transition suspends the gaze, a thin threshold between two states. Finally, the lower half opens onto a blue field, dense and still, whose depth is built through subtle variations and friction of matter.
Nothing is narrative; everything is a matter of tensions. The composition rests on a fragile balance between expansion and restraint: the heat above exerts pressure, while the blue absorbs, holds, stabilises. The middle line, almost erased, acts as a porous border, a passage rather than a limit.
The light does not come from a single point; it emanates from the pigments themselves. The reds vibrate on the surface, saturated, almost burning, while the more matte blues spread a silent presence. The contrast does not seek brutal opposition; it settles into a slow breathing, where each zone seems to answer the other.
Matter, for its part, asserts itself as an autonomous language. In the lower part, the pictorial thickness condenses into a suspended form, irregular, almost organic — the silhouette of an elephant that the eye senses more than it reads. It is neither fully dissolved into the background nor clearly detached: it floats, heavy and unstable, like a torn-off fragment. The gestures are visible, assumed, revealing streaks, accumulations, reworkings. The surface keeps the memory of movement.
The support seems absorbed by the paint, as if each layer had been laid down slowly, with the will to make matter exist as much as colour. The handling moves between stretched flat areas and concentrated impasto, creating an alternation of tactile tensions.
A reading takes shape without ever imposing itself. The top evokes combustion, a heavy sky, an expanding energy. The bottom, denser, holds back, weighs down, draws towards a kind of burial. Between the two, that pale line acts like a breath, a moment of suspension.
The whole leaves an impression of contained tipping, as if something were giving way without ever breaking. An image held on the edge of its own transformation, where colour becomes memory, and matter the lasting trace of an unstable balance.
